RCT - The A.I.M Project

The A.I.M (Aspiration. Inspiration. Motivation) Project is a programme funded by the National Lottery, to help support young people aged between 11 – 18 years old who are currently experiencing or have experienced DVA in the home.

Young people will be offered a variety of one-to-one sessions which will address trauma, develop and utilise coping skills, as well as resilience, promote mindfulness and other wellbeing initiatives to positively impact on health and wellbeing, as well as activities, after school youth clubs and online after school resources.

Key Workers and Volunteer Mentors will work together with each young person, offering a bespoke programme of support. Using My Star, each young person will be assessed so we understand their needs as well as to monitor their progress, and amend their individual programme plan where needed.

Talking treatments can help you to overcome emotional difficulties and free yourself from self-destructive ways of feeling thinking and behaving. They work by providing an opportunity for you to talk in a way that assists you to understand yourself better. Having gained this understanding you can work out ways of living your life in a more positive and constructive way. This way of changing your life is very different from using drugs such as tranquillisers and antidepressants which doctors often prescribe for people who are emotionally distressed. These drugs change your mood by affecting the balance of chemicals in your body but do not help you to deal with underlying problems. Counselling is a form of psychological or talking therapy that offers people a chance to change how they feel and to live better.
