Rochdale Autism and ADHD Support Service (RAASS)

The new RAASS support service for families on the Autistic Spectrum and those who are on the pathway.

Families who have a child with ADHD, sensory issues, behavioural difficulties, and additional needs may also access a range of support too.

Home visiting, telephone, group support and information sessions are available for families who have children up to their 12th birthday.

We understand how difficult it can be raising a child with additional needs and disabilities. Our Coordinator and Support Worker have experience of living and working with children who are on the Autistic Spectrum, so they understand how challenging this can be.

We have a Family Engagement Support Worker and trained parent volunteers to offer regular emotional and practical support for families, to help reduce stress and improve coping strategies.

The various forms of autism are thought to overlap considerably, but the fact that there is wide variation in symptoms among children with autism led to the concept of autism (or autistic) spectrum disorder. Autism seems to be on the rise, and, according to the National Autistic Society, there are over half a million people in the UK with an autism spectrum disorder. It’s unclear, though, whether the growing incidence of autism represents a real increase or just improved detection. Early diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder is important. That’s because detection leads to treatment, and with early treatment, a child with autism can gain improved language and social skills.
